Xbox One/Xbox Series X GMDs

Cataloging Guidelines: Xbox One vs. Xbox Series X

With the release of the Xbox Series X, many game discs are designed to be compatible with both the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X. Accurate GMD assignment depends on this compatibility.

The General Rule: If a game is compatible with both consoles, use the GMD: [VIDEO GAME (Xbox One)].
This is because all Xbox One games work on the Series X, but not all Series X games work on the One.

Example 1: Dual-Compatible Games

When the Edition Statement (245 $b or 250) or General Note (500) indicates the game is playable on both consoles, assign the GMD: [VIDEO GAME (Xbox One)].

Example 2: Xbox Series X Exclusives

If the Edition Statement (250) or System Details Note (538) indicates that the game specifically requires the Xbox Series X and is not compatible with older hardware, assign the GMD: [VIDEO GAME (Xbox Series X)].
