Item Statistic Counters in WorkFlows

Understanding Checkout and Renewal Counters

The Item Search wizard in WorkFlows features three distinct counters. Each tracks checkouts and renewals over different time periods to help you analyze item circulation.

1. Total Charges

Located in the Item Info tab, the Total charges counter provides the cumulative number of checkouts an item has had for its entire life in the system.

Example: An item showing "19" in this field has been checked out 19 times since it was first added to the library's collection.

2. Ongoing Checkouts and Renewals

Located in the Circ Info tab, the Ongoing checkouts and renewals counter quantifies activity since the library began using Symphony WorkFlows.

  • For libraries that were members before 2012, this counter began in June 2012.
  • For libraries that joined after June 2012, the counter began on your specific migration date.

Example: An item may show 5 checkouts and 3 renewals since the library migrated to the consortium in October 2018.

3. Checkouts and Renewals to Date

Located in the Circ Info tab, this counter indicates activity since the statistics were last reset. The reset point is identified by the Date last cleared field.

Note: SEO runs an automated report to reset these specific counters annually on January 1.

Example: If an item has been checked out once since the start of the current year, the counter will show 1 checkout and 0 renewals with a 'Date last cleared' of January 1.
