Registering Patrons Without a Last Name

WorkFlows requires the Last name field to be populated to save a new record. If a patron has only a single name, follow this two-step process to bypass the system requirement while maintaining an accurate record.

Step 1: Initial Registration (Placeholder)

  1. Open the User Registration wizard as usual.
  2. In the Last name field, enter a single period (.). This acts as a placeholder, allowing you to perform the mandatory duplicate check and save the account.

  3. Click the Extended Info tab. In the Note field, type: Patron has no last name.

  4. Click Save to create the account.

Step 2: Removing the Placeholder

  1. Open the Modify User wizard and pull up the account you just created.
  2. Delete the period (.) from the Last name field, leaving it blank.
  3. Click Save. The system will now allow the blank field because the record already exists.
Modify User screen showing the Last Name field now empty and the Save button being clicked.
Staff Note: This process ensures the patron's name is represented accurately in the catalog and on their physical library card without system-generated punctuation.
