PayPal Guest Payments Update

PayPal No Longer Allowing Guest Payments Without a Valid Email Address

We were notified by a couple of libraries of the change made by PayPal to require an email address to take payments. This has presented some issues for patrons without an email address.

After speaking with PayPal, they gave these recommendations:

  1. You can use one email address to take payments from all patrons who do not have an email address.  Use this same email anytime a patron does not have an email address. This email address must be different than your Primary PayPal payment email address

  1. To use one email address, the email address needs to be registered in the PayPal Account settings and the email address must be verified.  We walk you through the steps below

SEO can create you an email address specifically for taking payments if you so choose.  Example would be  [email protected] or [email protected]

To register an email address in PayPal:

  1. Go to PayPal site and Login:  https://www.paypal.com/us/home
  2. Go to the gear icon and click on it
  3. This will take you to the account setting page
  4. Find Emails and click on + Add New
  5. DO Not make this your Primary email.  The Primary email is the  address needed to take payments online. IF you switch the primary email… it will no longer function with the Enterprise Catalog.
  6. After you have added the new email.  An email will be sent to that account for verification.
  7. Log into what ever email account you just added and follow the instructions to verify the email address with PayPal.
  8. Your finished….
