Manage Hold Shelf Wizard

When Available holds have expired, been cancelled or suspended while on the hold shelf, the Manage Hold Shelf Wizard should be used to break the tie between the patron and the hold. 



Accessing Manage Hold Shelf Wizard


The Manage Hold Shelf Wizard is located in the Holds group of wizards.


Click on the Manage Hold Shelf Wizard.  It will display a list of holds that need to be processed. If you need to print a list of cancelled, expired, and suspended items, see the Printing a List of Items on the Hold Shelf section at the bottom of this article.



Processing Holds

To process the hold, locate the item in the Manage Hold Shelf list and highlight it. 

Click on the Process Selected Inactive Holds button. 



A Next Action box will pop up stating what needs to be done with the item. This item is going back on the shelf. 

Click on the Close button. 


If there is a hold on the processed item, the Next Action will let staff know that the next hold will be trapped. It will print a hold slip if the hold is to be picked up at your library.


OR


A transit slip will print if it is to be picked up at another library.


The item processed will now show in the processed area.


Continue to process all the items on the list. 


**It is recommended to process the items on this list daily. If the list is not maintained, items on the list will stay in HOLDS. The item will never be selected to fill any other hold**


If your list has not been maintained, if the item is yours, staff should check the shelves to see if the item is there. If it is not found, process the item and then check it out to your XYYZMISSING user. 


If the item is not yours, call the owning library and have them check their shelves for the item. If the item is not found ask them to check the item out to their XYZMISSING user.

Printing a List of Items on the Hold Shelf

There is a bug in WorkFlows that when you use the File and Print option with the Manage Hold Shelf Wizard, all items, including those that are available will print. (SirsiDynix UNI-41302).


The easiest way to print Expired, Cancelled, and Suspended items is to copy and paste the list into a Word document.


After opening the Manage Hold Shelf Wizard:

  1. Highlight the list.
  2. Hold the CTRL key and the letter C on your keyboard to copy the list
  3. Open a Word document 
  4. Hold the CTRL key and the letter V on your keyboard. This will paste the list. 
  5. The list can then be printed from the document and taken to the hold shelf to retrieve the items.
