Large Print vs Larger Print

Cataloging Guidelines: Large vs. Larger Print

Proper record matching depends on the specific point-type of the text. The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped defines Large Print as having a type size of 14-point or higher.

Standard "Larger Print" (13.5 point): Most "larger" print books (such as Harlequin titles) use a 13.5-point type. These should be attached to the Regular Print bibliographic record.
Exception — HarperLuxe: HarperLuxe "larger print" books use a 14-point type. These should be attached to the Large Print bibliographic record.

Record Selection Rules

  • If a regular print record exists (or a large print record for HarperLuxe), do not download a separate "larger print" record.
  • If a "larger print" record is the only existing record for a title, you may attach the item to that record.
