Outreach Homebound Users

Libraries may have many different types of patrons who cannot make use of traditional circulation services. For these users, known in SirsiDynix Symphony as outreach users, the library must extend its services beyond its walls.


Libraries may use any of the following methods to make its collection available to outreach users:


  • Send bookmobiles or other delivery vehicles
  • Ship materials
  • Prepare materials to be picked up by designated representatives


The Outreach Services wizards assist the library staff in identifying and distributing library materials to users who cannot come to the library.


The module's flexible design allows materials to be delivered to patrons in a number of situations, including the following:
  • Homes of users who cannot come to the library in person
  • Users who are located in areas too remote to be served by bookmobiles
  • Bookmobile stops
  • Schools
  • Daycare centers
  • Managed care facilities
  • Correctional institutions
  • Literacy and adult education programs
  • Users conducting home schooling
Everything for the Outreach Homebound (ORHB) user is done in the OUTREACH tab.



The 1st step is to create the route(s)


  1. Go to the Create Route Wizard in the Route Information and Maintenance Module 
  2. In the Route ID field, specify a unique ID of up to 20 uppercase letters and /or numbers for the route. This ID must be unique to the library for which the route is being created. Please use your library 3 letter code when creating your route ID.
  3. In the Route Name field, type a descriptive name of up to 70 mixed-case letters and /or numbers for the route.
  4. Choose YOUR LIBRARY in the Library field and click on the Create Route button.
  5. Once the route is created click the close button. Do this for each route you want to create.


The 2nd step is to Create Outreach for the User


  1. Go to the Create Outreach Wizard located in the Outreach Information and Maintenance wizard group.
  2. Search for the user you want to create the outreach for.
  3. If the user is not located, create the new user by using the Register New User helper in the upper left corner.
  4. In the Route ID use the Route ID Gadget to search for the route
  5. Once you have the route entered click on Create Outreach.
  6. Go to Modify User Wizard located in the User Module.
  7.  Click on the ORHB user just created.
  8. Change the Profile name to your ORHB Profile.
  9. Change the Charge history rule to ALLCHARGES .


Save and close.
