Important Information for Cataloger Contacts

Modified on Wed, 03 Aug 2022 at 12:56 PM

Every SEO member library must designate a cataloger contact. A library may also have back-up cataloger contacts.

Responsibilities of main and back-up cataloger contacts:

Subscribe to the SEO-CAT listserv.

The SEO-CAT listserv is used to broadcast announcements and share important information to member library catalogers across the consortium. Instructions on joining the SEO-CAT listserv can be found here: Join Now

Visit the SEO webpage and Support site and be familiar with their contents.

The SEO website, http://servingeveryohioan.org and SEO Support Portal, http://support.servingeveryohioan.org contain cataloging procedures, policies, instructions and explanations for many common situations encountered while cataloging. You may want to bookmark these sites for quick reference. Make sure your coworkers who catalog also are familiar with the sites.

Inform the SEO cataloging department of changes needed in the catalog.

Examples of what to report: misspellings, discrepancies between the bib record and the item in hand; records that don't show up as expected when searched, etc.

When needed, download records from OCLC CatExpress for your library's materials.

When there isn't a matching bib record in either the SEO catalog or CatExpress, the SEO Tech Team can create one for you. Complete a request for original cataloging here. Contact SEO for the password.

Responsibilities of the SEO cataloging department:
  • To be a resource for SEO member library catalogers.
  • To import bibliographic records from CatExpress.
  • To keep the database free of errors and up to date.
