No Items Qualified for Hold

Modified on Mon, 06 Jun 2022 at 03:54 PM

Formerly this error read "No items qualified for hold". SEO renamed this error to read "Hold NOT Placed - Please Ask Staff For Assistance" in hopes that patrons would realize there was a problem when placing their hold.

The "No items qualified for hold" error presents itself when the following situation occurs:

IF a patron does not belong to any of the HOLD GROUP libraries in your library settings (home library or home library system),

BUT the patron is using one of the HOLD GROUP libraries’ Enterprise profiles to search and place holds (instead of their home library’s Enterprise profiles),

AND their home library HOLD GROUP does not own a copy of the title:

WHEN trying to place a hold, they will receive a message:  “No ITEMS QUALIFIED FOR HOLD” on Enterprise.
We are changing the message to say:  “PLEASE CHECK WITH STAFF”, so staff can assist and place a hold for them.

Further explanation:
  1. Library directors wanted their copy and those of their branches to fill their patrons hold first and Symphony was configured to do that.
  2. If patron was at home placing holds in the evening, they expected their items to be on that library’s hold shelf the next day.
  3. Holds are resolved quicker than waiting for a copy to travel via Statewide Delivery from another part of the state.
For example; if you were to use an SEO card in Wood County’s catalog for a DVD that SEO does not own (my home library); and that WOD nor any of their branches own; but Luckey Branch of Pemberville PEL does own.  PEM is part of WOODLINK:

For this example; we used an SEO card in PPL’s catalog for a DVD CinderElmo that SEO does not own and PPL does:

Next, we are using a CAL card in SEO’s Enterprise trying to place a hold on Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends Hum Bug DVD that CAL does not own, but SEO does. Our Hold Group Libraries contains only SEO (single site):

The patron must place the hold on the item from their owning library's Enterprise catalog.
