Will I need new barcode scanners, receipt printers, or web cameras?
No, your current barcode scanners, receipt printers, and web cameras should work with Polaris.
Will we still be using WorkFlows and BLUEcloud Analytics?
No. With the move to Polaris, libraries will use the Leap Web Client for circulation and cataloging. Polaris will not use BLUEcloud Analytics for reporting and has its own reporting interface.
Will we need to rebarcode our collection?
No.
Will the app we now know be supported by the migration to Polaris?
Yes. We will use the same app and with the move to Polaris, there will be added functionality. Your patrons will probably need to log into their accounts immediately after the migration, but they will not have to install a new app.
What outreach capabilities does Polaris have?
Leap has Outreach Services functionality which includes setting up delivery routes and stops, as well as selection lists. At this time, we do not have the details on how it is set up in the background.
We have branches who often lose WiFi connection due to power outages. They are concerned with a cloud-based product. Will there be an offline mode?
Yes, Leap offers an offline mode that can be used through the browser. It requires downloading a small file after logging into Leap for the first time. If the file is ever deleted or needs to be updated, there is a warning after logging into Leap, so there's little worry about it not being there.
