Duplicating Serial Controls

Control Records must be created annually for each magazine subscription. These records enable patrons to place issue-specific holds in the online catalog.

  1. Open the SERIALS toolbar.

  2. Select Create Control from the Common Tasks wizard group.

  3. Search for the periodical title.
    Note: SEO-specified magazine titles are followed by the current year (e.g., Birds and Blooms, 2026).

  4. Select the title and click Create Control at the bottom of the screen.

  5. In the dialog box, select Display Control.

  6. Highlight the SEO Control and select Duplicate Control.

  7. In the dialog box, update the codes to your specific Library Code and Holding Code, then click OK.

  8. Basic Tab Settings: Verify the settings in the Basic tab match your library requirements.

  10. Select Create Control.
    Note: If you receive multiple copies of the same magazine, proceed to the "Handling Multiple Copies" section below before finishing.

Handling Multiple Copies or Branch Subscriptions

If your library subscribes to multiple copies or processes magazines for multiple branches, follow these additional steps within the Control Record.

  1. From the Subscription Tab, update the Copies to receive field to match your total number of subscriptions.
  2. Update the number of copies to receive in the "Copies to receive" text box.Click the Distribution Tab and select the Create Distribution Helper.
